Modern Foreign Languages are an integral part of learning at St John’s Priory School, with specialist teaching in both French and Spanish from Nursery to Year 6; exposing our children to modern foreign languages at a time when the brain is best suited to language acquisition.
From an early age, our pupils develop an understanding of the French and Spanish culture and traditions and learn the new sounds and intonations of the languages through varied and challenging methods. We make the lessons as entertaining and enjoyable as possible, as we realise that this approach serves to develop a positive attitude in the children. The emphasis is on enjoyment through games, songs, stories, puppets and role play.
We build children’s confidence through praise for contributions they make in the foreign language, however tentative.
